As one of the biggest coffee producers in Central America, Honduras sits in the top ten coffee producers worldwide.
Situated in the West of Honduras is the outstanding coffee collective COCAFELOL. Founded in 1995, the cooperative started as a collection of 24 farmers who’s focus is built around the production of high grade, top quality coffee.
The cooperative currently has more than 425 members, 81 of which are female – with a focus on organic, arabica coffee beans. This is a collection of coffee producers who are pioneering in their approach to coffee farming making use of their own organic fertilisers from the waste product of the coffee cherries and bioethanol – creating a truly sustainable farming practice.
The cooperative also values the education of their members and organises courses for the local children as well as an organic agricultural school for the coffee farmers.
