FAQ
Organic Coffee
Apostle Coffee source only organic green coffee beans from producers around the world, with these beans accredited as organic at source. Apostle Coffee is then accredited for our roasting by the Soil Association. Companies who state that their products are organic without this third-party verification are actually breaking the law!
We don’t provide samples, but you can purchase one-off bags and special editions from our online shop.
Our coffee is rested for at least 3 days before being sent out and if you are brewing using filter, cafetiere or pour over the coffee should be ready to brew as soon as it arrives. If you are brewing espresso the beans might require a little longer to rest, typically another 3-5 days. If your espresso shot is coming through very lively and a little frothy, this suggests that the beans would benefit from slightly longer before brewing.
We recommend storing your coffee in an airtight container – such as our reusable glass jars or compostable ziplock bags. These should then be kept in a dry and dark place. We don’t recommend keeping your coffee in the freezer or fridge.
As a specialty coffee roastery we work to preserve the full range of tastes and characteristics of our coffee beans. This means roasting them to a lighter profile, or what is known as a ‘light’ or ‘city roast’. Not only does this ‘roast profile’ bring out the very best in the coffee beans, but it also ensures that there are no overly bitter or burnt qualities (something that is more typical of coffee served in big chain coffee shops where bad quality beans are hidden behind overly dark and oily roasts).
The taste of your coffee is all down to the brewing method used. If you’re unsure on the best way to make your coffee at home, why not check out our brew guides for some pointers. Sour or bitter tasting coffee is likely to be the result of the coffee not being ‘extracted’ properly, either with too much heat and time, or too little.
We don’t recommend storing your coffee in the freezer. Nothing bad will happen, but it’s certainly not going to do it any favours. Much better to buy what you need and use it as soon as possible. Fresh is best!
Our Organic Signature Blend ‘The Devil’s Chair’ has great dark coffee qualities – it’s even a Great Taste Award-winner!
Our House Blend, ‘Ippikin’s Rock’ is a fantastic tasting light roast and most popular with the cafes we supply locally.
